Pranayama Workshop: The Heart of Breathing
We can go 3 months without food, 3 days without water, but just 3 minutes without breath. Sacred and essential, breathing is natural and spontaneous as much as it is a sophisticated healing art. In this workshop we will explore how different breathing patterns and techniques create profoundly different physiological states, directly affecting the body, brain and emotions. Discover habitual breathing patterns and learn the art of more than seven different pranayama techniques with application for daily living and yoga/meditation practice. Beginning and advanced yoga practitioners will benefit from a deeper understanding of energizing and relaxing breaths, heating and cooling breaths, breathing techniques for anxiety, stress relief, chakra purification, and more! Misha Bell is well deserving of her reputation as one of the most exceptional and gifted teachers on the yoga scene today. Misha has studied and taught yoga in America, Europe, the United Kingdom, and India. She is a Yoga Alliance eRYT-500 teacher and a certified Yoga and Ayurveda Health Educator with more than 4,400 hours of teaching experience, over 2,500 hours of training in yoga and ayurveda, and untold hours of personal practice.
Born on an island in Washington State, Misha began spontaneously practicing advanced yoga methods in early childhood. It was not until her twenties that she discovered the knowledge and esoteric practices were traditional and often secret teachings of Kashmiri Shaivism and Tantra. As practical, philosophical and ontological knowledge continued to flow in, Misha exhaustively poured through ancient texts to fact check the information. She found 100% accuracy.
As Misha continued her personal practice and rigorous study of the yoga tradition, she earned a BA in Comparative History of Ideas, summa cum laude, from the University of Washington, and a law degree from Columbia University with concentrations in human rights and conflict resolution, while tirelessly working for social justice. Yoga remained a personal practice.
Then came the call to teach, followed by Mother India’s call to return home.
While living in the Himalayas, Misha completed numerous pilgrimages to sacred temples and holy places, including Gomukh, Kedernath, Badrinath, and Vaishno Devi. Her 2009 pilgrimage to Amarnath Cave drew tremendous attention as she was the first solo female foreigner to complete the steep, high altitude Shaivite pilgrimage in the disputed region of Kashmir.
Also while living in India, Misha had the distinct privilege of deepening her knowledge of yoga, advaita vedanta, shaivism, ayurveda and contemporary Hinduism through a traditional and rigorous Guru/Chela relationship, and the honor of teaching yoga and meditation as a resident instructor at the esteemed Parmarth Niketan Ashram in Rishikesh.
Shortly upon returning to the States for a brief trip in 2011, Misha was offered the position of Director of Teacher Training at Yoga Shala in Prescott, AZ. The timing was excellent and Misha accepted the opportunity to once again teach in America.
Misha’s yoga classes, workshops and rigorous 200-hour and 500-hour yoga teacher training programs are in a league of their own. Inspiring and rich, her teaching is accessible to beginners and relished by advanced practitioners.
In addition to teaching yoga, Misha is a talented Ayurvedic practitioner and raw food chef. Now in Bisbee, Arizona, she is gearing up to expand her wildly successful raw food line, Raw Prasad.
