Sedona Yoga Festival Partners with Give Back Yoga Foundation for Yoga For First Responders: a 2.5 day teacher training intensive pre-conference of Sedona Yoga Festival.

THE FIRST SPARK

Yoga for First Responders was created through a collaboration between the Give Back Yoga Foundation and the Sedona Yoga Festival. Marc Titus, Founder and Director of SYF, a former wildland firefighter of 20 years, had the desire to bring yoga to first responders after recognizing his own struggles with Post-Traumatic Stress following a tragic career event. Together, the organizations found the right people to present the inaugural Yoga for First Responders teacher training at the February 2015 Sedona Yoga Festival. Now a dedicated Give Back Yoga program, Yoga for First Responders continues to receive funding support through the Sedona Yoga Festival, building a strong foundation for our shared mission of making yoga more accessible to first responders. Together we are excited to bring the training again to the 2016 Sedona Yoga Festival to continue to expand the reach and the effects of the program nationwide. SYF is offering a $70 discount to festival passes when combined with full tuition to YFFR.

The need is clear: in one segment, emergency personnel may witness more trauma, loss, death and destruction than the average citizen will see in a lifetime. An estimated 25 to 30% of police officers have stress-based physical health problems, while 40% suffer from sleep disorders. And numbers are rising for Post Traumatic Stress among all emergency personnel: 18% in police officers, and 10 to 37% in fire service. Yoga for First Responders provides vital emotional-wellness and mental-resiliency support through in-house classes in academy and department settings, and through trainings that educate instructors on our unique approach.

Rooted in the foundation of Trauma-Sensitive Yoga, the Yoga for First Responders program incorporates the element of physical challenges paired with mental training — giving first responders an opportunity to increase peak performance on the job, while alleviating physical and mental effects of work-related stress and trauma so they can lead a more enjoyable personal life.
